As a prelude to the upcoming stage production of RASHOMON, Community Asian Theatre of the Sierra (CATS) and The Onyx Downtown are co-presenting a special screening of Akira Kurosawa’s acclaimed 1950 film at the Nevada Theatre, starring Toshirô Mifune. This fundraiser for CATS is presented as a “Bento Box Dinner and Movie.” Guests will have the option to purchase a bento box from Kaliko’s Hawaiian Kitchen food truck, parked outside the Nevada Theatre, and enjoy their meal inside the theatre. Before the screening, there will be a Japanese sword fight demonstration. Following the film, Sonny Alforque, director of the stage production, will lead a brief talk exploring how Kurosawa’s film is interpreted and reimagined for the stage. This special screening offers a thoughtful introduction to the live theatrical performance of RASHOMON, which runs April 23 – May 16 at the Nevada Theatre. Tickets at www.theonyxtheatre.com.
