Rainbow Herd: An Equine Intensive for the LGBTQIA+ Community
This Pride Month, Surmount Counseling and WindWalkers are coming together to offer a therapeutic group experience, alongside the horses, for LGBTQIA+ adults in the Roaring Fork Valley.
What is Rainbow Herd?
Rainbow Herd is a one-time, experiential group workshop using the Eagala Model of equine-assisted therapy. This is not a riding experience as all work is done on the ground, alongside the horses, with a licensed mental health professional and a certified equine specialist present throughout.
Horses are remarkably attuned to human emotion. They respond authentically to who we are in the moment, not who we perform ourselves to be. In that space, something real can happen.
This workshop is designed to support community building, authentic connection, and a sense of belonging — themes that matter deeply, especially during Pride Month.
What to expect
- A welcome circle to ground, connect, and set intentions
- A 90-minute Eagala equine-assisted group session
- Small group reflection to process the experience together
- A closing ceremony to carry the morning forward
Total time: approximately 3 hours (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM)
Who is this for?
LGBTQIA+ adults in the Roaring Fork Valley and surrounding communities who are curious about equine-assisted therapy, looking to connect with their community in a meaningful way, and ready to show up authentically.
No horse experience necessary. No therapy experience necessary. Just you.
What to wear & bring
- Closed-toe shoes (required for safety around horses)
- Comfortable clothes you don't mind getting a little dusty
- Sunscreen
- Water bottle
- An open mind
