Radical Ballads Workshop with Jennifer Reid
About this Event
There is a folk revival happening but this time it's online. Narratives are being attached to inanimate objects like flags and people are so ground down under years of austerity that they are letting it happen.
Jennifer Reid is a performer of Victorian Industrial Revolution work song in the Lancashire dialect and from this lofty perch she wants to share ideas and etymologies of folklore, ritual, folk music and dancing.
Can we try and unknot this matted web?
She will share a basic working history of broadside ballads, the music hall, working class life in the 19thC onto Luddites/Captain Swing then how print culture began to give working people a voice and how now it may be taking it away.
