Poetry Open Mic
Host: Can I Get A Witness?
Info: Can I Get a Witness? open mic creates space to talk about what really matters. Topics like grief, survival, and sexuality get met with deep listening and response instead of discomfort and awkward applause.
If you’ve never been to a CIGAW event here’s how it works:
We have an open mic list with 6-10 poets.
Poets who sign up can share for up to 5mins.
After each poet the room speaks back for 3-5mins.
The goal isn’t to judge, critique, or simply hype up the poet (although hyping of the poet is always welcome). The goal is engage in meaningful conversation rooted in themes found in the poets work, which typically hits different for each listener.
At the event we have ‘Ways We Witness’ and optional speaking prompts that keep the container safe for both the performers and the audience.
