The HYC Quest Winter (Sprint) Series, is designed to be a fun, collaborative and competitive series, sailed over 6 alternate Saturdays (16 May; 13 June; 27 June; 25 July; 8 August & 22 August), allowing for breaks in the series where there will be no sailing over the July school holidays, or King’s Birthday weekend. The first sailing day, 17 May, will have an earlier start to allow for an explanation of the series rules, team allocation and a practice race.
The series is open to all sailors, and those aged 8 to 88+ are invited and encouraged to register and come along! If you are a parent or partner of a sailor, and have wanted to give sailing a go, this is also an opportunity for you to jump on board! If you are not a keen winter weather sailor, but would still like to be involved, then there are shore based positions you could fill. Or, if newer club members would like to give Beach Mastering, Race Officer or support crewing a go, this is your chance!
The Quest series is designed to foster technical development, teamwork, and camaraderie among sailors while delivering an engaging and competitive experience. The goals are for participants to refine their skills, master racing rules, and gain valuable insights from experienced sailors.
A strong emphasis on team building sets this regatta apart, with teams comprising multiple crews. Each crew consists of 2 to 3 sailors collaborating under a team captain to earn points for their crew and contribute to an overall tally for their team within each Quest. Consistent teamwork and collaboration enhance cohesion, ensuring sailors grow together as a unit. As such, teams and crews are encouraged to remain the same for each day of the series, and to commit to sail the entire series.
Prizes will be awarded to recognize both team and crew achievements, reinforcing the collective commitment to success. Equally significant is the social aspect, which encourages sailors from different levels of experience to exchange strategies, learn from one another, and strengthen connections within our sailing community.
As sailors compete as part of a team, the primary focus is on team results. Some sailors may only be available on an ad hoc basis, and are encouraged to join in and sail when they can, however, while they can participate in races, in order to keep consistency in the scoring, they will not contribute to the team’s overall results.
