About this Event
What you'll learn:
- History of the 2SLGBTQ+ Purge of the public service (1950s-1990s)
- Key players in Ottawa's queer history (Charlotte Whitton, Peaches Latour, Rupert Raj)
- Stories of Ottawa's original gay village (1970s-2000s)
Where you'll go:
- 3 km of walking along downtown Ottawa streets (Bank St, Elgin St)
- Locations of protest and connection (Human Rights Monument, historical nightlife, commmunity resources)
- Point to point walk - start at Dundonald Park and end at Confederation Park
What you'll need:
- Weather appropriate walking clothing (tour will go rain or shine - but may be cancelled in the event of a significant storm, extreme heat, or bad air quality)
- Water/snacks/things that will help support your energy for the two hours together
- Willingness to share, learn and connect with the tour group

My name is Morgan Mercury, I am a local drag king who has been running Queer History of Ottawa walks, talks and bikes since April 2024. I am passionate about public eduation, working for over 8 years at various museums, tour companies and education institutions, and have an educational background in development policy and journalism.
