About this Event

The Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) and History Hub Ulster welcome you to a talk by Nigel Henderson.

What is Queen's Island and what was Queen's Island?

This talk will cover how the island was created and how it developed and expanded to become one of the largest ship building and engineering industrial concentrations in the world. The talk will provide details of the various shipbuilding firms that operated at Queen's Island until the almost total domination of Harland & Wolff in the late 1930s.

The talk will also cover some other, perhaps lesser known, aspects of the history of Queen's Island - for example, the pleasure park and Crystal Palace, the East Twin Island Light House, the dining rooms, the animal quarantine station.
