About this Event
QPR training isa widely taught, evidence-based suicide prevention gatekeeper training program that teaches individuals to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to intervene. The acronym QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer, the three simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life.Key ComponentsThe training is designed for anyone, regardless of their background, to learn how to offer hope and get help for someone in crisis.
- Question the person about their feelings or intentions regarding suicide.
- Persuade them to seek help and keep them safe from immediate danger.
- Refer them to appropriate support services, such as mental health professionals, a suicide and crisis hotline, or other local resources.
ABOUT YOUR TRAINER
Lynette Sheard is a Community Education Coordinator at the Mental Health Association in New Jersey and the Director of the national award-winning NJ Mental Health Players, an improvisational community mental health education program. This program offers audiences a dynamic and engaging way to learn about mental illness, addiction, and other challenges that impact emotional wellness. Its mission is to increase education and awareness, decrease stigma, and break the silence often associated with mental health.
Lynette brings more than 20 years of experience and is uniquely qualified for this work. She combines her expertise as a professional performer, podcast host, producer, and director with a deep passion for advocacy. She is a sought-after, award-winning conference keynote speaker and workshop facilitator who has presented to more than twenty thousand people across statewide and local agencies, consumer organizations, corporations, educational institutions, hospitals, and community groups. Her audiences have included elementary schools, high schools, colleges/universities, nonprofits, social service agencies, and state and federal organizations.
Lynette has worked with the Mental Health Association for over 22 years. She was honored as Professional of the Year by the Association of Persons with Supported Employment for her work with individuals with disabilities and mental illness. She has also received numerous ambassador and community awards for her presentations and mental health advocacy.
She is certified by Mental Health America as a trainer of Mental Health First Aid for adults, older adults, and youth. In addition, she holds certifications in Suicide Prevention, Psychiatric Advance Directives, trauma-informed care, and is a certified behavioral consultant.
