Q-MoB Walk: Historic Walking Tour of Indian Town (Stockbridge, MA)

THE HISTORY OF INDIAN TOWN, STOCKBRIDGE

Indian Town was chartered in 1737 as a mission to the Mohican tribe to teach them English, about Christianity and about English agricultural practices. Recently, the Stockbridge-Munsee community in Wisconsin worked with Housatonic Heritage and other local partners to create a tour of the most important Mohican sites along the main street of Stockbridge. Trained by one of the creators of the walking tour, OLLI members will lead participants along Main Street to learn about the Mohicans, who lived in what is now Stockbridge for thousands of years, and aspects of their culture which are still present today. Stops include the Carriage Barn at the Mission House, the burial grounds and the site of the 2021 archeological dig for the Mohican meeting house. 1.5 hours–1.5 miles

Park and meet in the Stockbridge town offices parking lot at 50 Main St.

• If this is your 1st time at a Q-MoB activity, your participatio is FREE. If you have already attended Q-MoB sponsored activities, please bring $10-$20 Tax-Deductible Donation (paid or as cash or check made out to "BSCC") or by donating $25/month, $50/month, $75/month, $100/month or more -- so you never have to donate at Q-MoB activities again. No one is ever turned away for lack of funds

• a fleece/sweater (sometimes unexpected winds/storms can drop temps)

WEATHER: Please check the weather in Stockbridge from your home before you leave for the walk, so that you will be able bring the right clothes to deal with any last minute changes in the weather. Weather in the Berkshires can change quickly and it always good to be prepared for rain, wind, & unexpectedly cooler or hotter temps than were forecast the day before. We will only cancel the walk if there is a forecast of a thunderstorm or sustained rain, and we will text you should this happen the day of the walk.
