About this Event

4/19 Q-MoB NEW Garden Group: Spring Ephemerals & Planting (Pittsfield, MA)
Sunday, 10am-12pm
52 Thomson Pl
Pittsfield, MA 01201

Join gardening geeks and men who are curious about gardening in this kick-off garden tour and talk about incorporating native plants in your spring garden planning and the benefits they provide for native birds, pollinators, saving water & the cost of inputs like fertilizer & pest/disease management. Native plants tend to be much hardier than non-native plants & better adapted to the climate and soils of the Berkshires. They also require much less maintenance, making them ideal for gardeners who are short on time.

ABOUT THE Q-MOB GARDENING GROUP

We hope members of the Q-MoB Gardening Group will host garden gatherings once or twice a month at your home garden (even very modest gardens that are a work-in-progress) or another garden you love, and that every gathering may include

  • a brief talk about the hosts current focus in their garden or a topic they want the group to learn about,
  • the opportunity to learn by doing in the host's garden,
  • time for sharing snacks, beverages, & conversation about each person's garden plans, questions, and next steps.

IMPORTANT: BEGINNER'S WELCOME TO HOST. The Gardening Group can only continue if men are willing to host gatherings every month, so we want men who have a small, modest garden, or who have just started their gardening adventure to feel as welcome to host as more experienced gardeners. The important thing is bringing the group together to learn from one another regularly, not how fabulous your garden is or how much you know. If you don't have a garden but have a garden you love, you could host a tour of that garden.

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Rain-gear & Appropriate footwear for walking in potentially wet, muddy portions of the garden
  • Snacks & beverages to share with others
  • $10-$20 Tax-Deductible Donation, in cash, or check made out to "Q-MoB Inc" (Q-MoB is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit), or so you never have to donate at any regular Q-MoB event, or just come for FREE if this is the very 1st Q-MoB event you have ever attended, or if you are low-income request scholarship or work-exchange
  • Queer male friends who already love gardening or who may be curious about gardening & learning with other garden geeks

PARKING: Please park on the street, so as not to block the shared driveway that is on the neighboring property. Carpooling or biking is highly encouraged.

WEATHER: On the morning of the event, please check the weather for the garden tour location before you leave home so you know current conditions and how to dress for them. Please let us know your cell phone number when you register so we can text you 2 hours before the event should an unexpected weather threat arise that causes us to have to cancel or postpone the activity.

ALLERGIES: There is a cat who lives in this house, so if you are allergic, be advised.

CARPOOLING/RIDE-SHARE: If you need a ride or are open to carpooling, please indicate that when you are registering, & our ride coordinator will try to match you with people nearby who are interested in carpooling or offering rides.

OR : Please donate $10-$20 to help assure Q-MoB can continue to offer more than 20 activities & multiple resources & services to rural queer men all over the region. If you attend 2 or more Q-MoB events/month, please consider becoming a monthly sustaining donor member. By donating $25, $50, $75, or $100/month you can help to sustain the incredible variety of activities, services, and resources Q-MoB provides and assure all of these activities are accessible to men regardless of their age, income, or ability, and best of all you can avoid having to donate at each and every event you attend. Monthly Sustaining Members pay only once a month and then can attend all our activities with no further donation.

REACHING US DAY OF EVENT: If you will be late, have trouble finding us, or decide not to attend, please text Jared, the host (you will find his cell # in your confirmation email), and if you have questions before the event, please or call/text 413-344-8162
