You'll learn about architecture, cultural and neighborhood development, historic preservation, and Cleveland's role in American history. Along the way, you'll meet important figures from Cleveland’s past, portrayed by actors and actresses, who will share their stories with you.

The Public Square + The Malls Tour meets outside restaurant in Public Square. Please arrive 15 minutes early as the tour starts promptly. (NO tour July 4th)

About the Tour: Public Square has been the heart of the City of Cleveland since its founding in 1796. Laid out to be a village green, part of a settlement of the Connecticut Land Company, the Square has a unique development history. In 1903, Cleveland’s Mall Plan is the second most intact City Beautiful Movement Plan after L’Enfant’s Washington D.C. Proposed by Mayor Tom Johnson, Daniel Burnham’s Group Plan resulted in six iconic structures being built between 1912-1931.

RESERVATIONS are requested but not required, walk-ups the day of tour are welcomed.

TAKE A HIKE® is a program of Historic Gateway Neighborhood Corporation with generous support from Ohio & Erie Canalway and Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.
