Torbay faces a critical moment.
On Wednesday 24 June, the HEART Campaign will host a major public meeting at the Grand Hotel in Torquay with guest speaker Mike Forster from the “Hands Off HRI” campaign in Huddersfield.
Mike will explain how communities in Huddersfield and Halifax came together to fight plans that threatened their local hospitals, and how ordinary people ultimately took the NHS to the High Court and won.
This meeting is about understanding what worked, what didn’t, and what lessons Torbay can learn from communities who have already faced this battle.
If we want Torbay Hospital to remain a full acute hospital and not be gradually downgraded, this cannot be left to a small group of campaigners. It requires the whole community standing together.
