This July, we are delighted to welcome Rev Dr Daniel McGinnis, Principal at St Hild College for a special teaching series titled 'Missional Acts: Churches that Change the World.' Across four engaging sessions, Daniel will guide us through the book of Acts, helping us explore how the early church was empowered, shaped, and sent - and what that means for us today.
Here is the outline of our day:
9.30am Tea/Coffee and Registration
10am Session 1 – Empowered by the Spirit: Pentecost and the Jerusalem Church
We begin at Pentecost, where the Holy Spirit ignites the mission of the church. Together, we'll explore how the Jerusalem church was formed and empowered to become a bold witness in its context.
11.15am Tea/Coffee Break
11.30am Session 2 – Training and Sending: Paul, Cornelius, and the Antioch Church
This session looks at how the gospel crosses boundaries and cultures. We'll reflect on the role of the Antioch church as a sending community and what it means to train and release people for mission.
12.30pm Lunch Break
Please bring a packed lunch with you. Tea and coffee will be provided. Alternatively, there is a Tesco Express and several sandwich and coffee shops in the town centre, all just a short walk away.
1.30pm Session 3 – Multiplying Movements: Paul's Journeys and the Ephesus Church
Focusing on Paul's missionary journeys, we'll consider how disciple-making movements grow and multiply, with Ephesus as a key example of a city and region transformed by the gospel.
2.45pm: Tea/Coffee Break
3pm Session 4 – Mission Today: House Churches, the Ending of Acts, and Where We Go From Here
Finally, we'll turn to the unfinished story of Acts and explore how its open-ended conclusion invites us into God's ongoing mission today - locally and globally.
4pm - 7.30pm Break
7.30pm Time of worship followed by Q&A with Daniel
9pm Finish
