Public Meeting: Protecting Local Rock Pools and Shellfish

Many Aucklanders remember exploring rock pools teeming with life. Crabs darted between rocks, shellfish were plentiful, and the shoreline provided a unique opportunity to connect with nature.
Today, many of these coastal ecosystems are under pressure. Fisheries New Zealand is consulting on new measures designed to help shellfish beds, rock pools, and other intertidal habitats recover.
Options include temporary closures, partial closures, and reduced shellfish harvesting limits to help restore marine ecosystems and shellfish populations.
The decisions made now could shape the future of our coastline for decades.
Bluegreens invites you to a public community meeting where local residents can hear from experts, ask questions, and better understand the proposals before submissions close.

• The history of the Whangaparāoa coastline closure
• The Cheltenham Beach closure and ongoing monitoring surveys
• Latest marine research from the University of Auckland

• Fisheries New Zealand's proposals and consultation process
