The City of Hickory wants to make safety improvements on 2nd St NE (N.C. 127) from 12th Ave NE to 16th Ave NW. To fund the sidewalk and intersection improvements, the City is pursuing a grant through the United States Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets for All (SS4A) Grant Program.
The City of Hickory recently adopted a comprehensive transportation safety action plan called Hickory Moving Forward. The proposed improvements along 2nd St NE (N.C. 127 N) were identified through the plan’s development process.
Residents are invited to attend a public meeting on Monday, May 18, from 4-6 p.m. in Council Chambers at the Julian G. Whitener Municipal Building (76 N Center St) to learn about proposed road improvements, share feedback, and express needs.

Feedback from the community is vital to the grant application process, and the City encourages participation from a variety of residents, pedestrians, and motorists.
