PSOY KOROLENKO and POLINA SHEPHERD in the new Program "STRANNIKI"
Schedule

Samovar Hall | Mountain View, CA
Polina Shepherd, singer, composer, pianist, choir director, unites Eastern European, Balkan, Turkic, Russian and Jewish musical traditions in a number of solo and joint projects under the general name The Polina Shepherd Vocal Experience.
Psoy Korolenko, "youth philologist and akyn", “wandering scientist”, “avant-bard” and “modern buffoon”, author, translator and performer of songs, just like Polina, has been involved in Jewish Yiddish songs for many years.
The Stranniki are new and re-sung famous songs, in which Russian and Yiddish, folklore and classics, originals and translations, old and modern, lightness and seriousness are intertwined. The common theme of all the songs is the road and the wanderer. Warning: some songs are very loud!
The STRANNIKI is a joint project of Polina Shepherd and Psoy Korolenko, two multilingual and multi-genre artists who have been known on the Jewish music scene for over two decades.
The central concept of their repertoire is the wanderer and the associated archetype of the road. The Stranniki turn to poetry and songs from Jewish and Russian literature, folklore and popular culture of the 19th and 20th centuries, organically interweaving their own original material.
Their first joint album reveals a unique continuity of lyrics, melodies, roads and destinies, inspiring and meaningful today, perhaps even more than ever.
