❤About the event ::
Come gather in community to learn about the ongoing land and water protection camp in the Upper Walbran (Kax:iks) Valley on Pacheedaht Territory,
The camp was launched by Pacheedaht Elder Bill Jones and exists to protect one of the last remaining tracts of ancient forest in the region. The Cougar Camp has become a powerful symbol of grassroots resistance to industrial destruction, cultural resurgence, and the call to honor Indigenous rights, laws, and relationships to land.
During this gathering, we will screen the documentary Rematriation—a film that speaks to the deeper history and the still-unfolding struggles around land stewardship, colonial impacts, and the protection of ancient forest ecosystems. The film offers a heartfelt look at the people on the frontlines and invites us to reflect on our own responsibilities and roles in this moment.
After the film, we’ll join together in a circle for an open Q&A with Pacheedhat Elder Bill Jones and Da'naxda'xw Land Protector Rainbow Eyes on zoom who will share lived perspectives from the movement, stories from the land, and insight into the broader efforts to safeguard old growth forests across the territory. Land Protectors will be present from camp aswell to answer questions. This is an opportunity for learning, connection, and respectful dialogue.
We will have stickers, baked goods and popcorn for sale onsite for your enjoyment and to add to our fundraising efforts.
Everyone is welcome. Come with an open heart, a spirit of reciprocity, and a willingness to learn and be part of the circle.
❤The money received from this fundraiser will be gifted to those protecting the Upper Walbran Valley. A portion of the proceeds are for Pacheedaht Elder Bill Jones’ ongoing court costs. The other portion is to support the Old Growth Mobile Education Bus, a group committed to outreach and education around old growth conservation. Their first stop is the Upper Walbran Valley.
