About this Event

Questions about life and death often unfold quietly within stories. Through the narrative flow of literature and the interplay of imagery and negative space in picture books, death and farewells become something we can observe and imagine.

Different forms of reading can open up different ways of feeling. Between pages and portraits, we gaze upon loss and transformation, rethinking what it means to live. We invite you to turn the pages and join the conversation.

About Katie, Shum Ka Ki

Illustrator who born in Hong Kong, Ka Ki has a passion for cooking and drawing. With a deep interest in any creative media themed around "death," she often contemplates how to integrate her artistic talents into the development of life education in Hong Kong. After completing her Master's degree in Children's Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art, she worked in a funeral social enterprise while dedicating her spare time to creative work. Through picture book creation, she wishes to explore with readers the mystery of how death is "making everything seem meaningless, yet simultaneously meaningful.
