What to Expect:
You will have the opportunity to explore the exhibition "Vally Wieselthier: Sculpting Modernism" in an exclusive guided tour with its curator Dr. Stephanie Buhmann, while experiencing the stunning architecture of the Austrian Cultural Forum's iconic building. A special thanks to the Austrian Cultural Forum for their hospitality.

About the artist and the exhibition (excerpt from the official exhibition description):
This is the first institutional retrospective in the United States dedicated to Vienna-born trailblazing Jewish artist Vally Wieselthier. The exhibition features sculptures, drawings, textile works and photographs from a range of international public and private collections. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Stephanie Buhmann, Head of Visual Art, Architecture and Design at the ACFNY.

Comprising ceramic works, drawings, textiles, designs for functional objects and toys, as well as photographs, the oeuvre of Vally Wieselthier (1895–1945)(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vally_Wieselthier) redefines modernist expression. A leading figure of the Wiener Werkstätte(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiener_Werkst%C3%A4tte), Wieselthier broke conventions with her exuberant, often provocative designs that blurred the then strict divide between fine art and crafts. Her works are marked by exaggerated forms, vibrant colors, and playful irreverence, challenging traditional notions of femininity. Especially her radical approach to ceramics, showcased her ability to merge humor, sensuality, and artistic innovation. As a result, she succeeded in transforming clay into a medium of avant-garde expression.

Walk:
Following the guided tour, we will embark on a 1-mile walk to Central Park, taking a short break at the newly renovated Chess & Checkers House Visitor Center. We’ll then continue with a leisurely 3-4 mile stroll through the park, finishing at Columbus Circle (subway lines 1, A, B, C, D).
