3.5 Hour Professional Workshop
Location: Loft To Loved, Sedgefield, TS21 2BN
Explore the creative and commercially refined application of colour to anodised aluminium and elevate your jewellery practice through techniques developed within an established design business.
This in depth workshop draws on over 15 years of specialist experience working with anodised aluminium as a primary medium. As the founder of her own design brand, Gillian Arnold has developed jewellery collections alongside a nationally and internationally distributed interiors range, where surface design and print processes are central to the work.
Her cross disciplinary practice, spanning metal and fabric, has informed a distinctive approach to colour, pattern, and process. The techniques taught in this workshop have been refined through sustained commercial production, retail, and wholesale experience.
You will be guided through both the creative and technical stages required to produce distinctive, professionally finished pieces, gaining insight into methods shaped by real world design practice.
The workshop will cover:
• Professional immersion dyeing techniques, including controlled colour mixing and dip dyeing
• The use of resists to create layered abstract and photographic surface effects
• Printing processes including mono printing and stamp creation.
• Correct sealing methods to ensure colour permanence
• Finishing, polishing, and forming aluminium to a professional standard
Participants will leave with completed pieces and a clear understanding of how surface design principles can translate on to aluminium.
