Join us on Thursday, February 13, as we commemorate Presidents Day with an inspiring talk by Robert Roncska, also known as “Navy Bob.” During his impressive career in the Navy, Bob commanded a nuclear-powered submarine, led the largest submarine squadron in the US fleet, and even carried the “nuclear football” for President George W. Bush. When Roncska assumed command of the USS Texas, the ship ranked at the bottom of its squadron and faced recurring safety issues. Through innovative strategies, he successfully transformed the culture, propelling his submarine’s ranking and retention from last place to first place in the Pacific Fleet in a remarkable 2-year period. Starting with a loving and people-centric approach, Roncska laid the groundwork of trust, standards, and purpose. At every assignment throughout his 28-year tenure, Bob noticed something - a mission’s success couldn’t be attributed to training, skills, or pedigree of the crew. Success (and morale) were driven by the quality of the leadership at the helm. Bob calls this ethos “Leading with Love,” and uses this philosophy to build leadership qualities in others in speeches around the country. In his debut book, Beyond the Sea, Robert Roncska offers insights into the transformation of positive cultures that turned sour and the negative cultures that became renowned.
Navy Bob will discuss leadership from all levels - in daily life and that of US Presidents. The evening will begin with a reception in the ConocoPhillips Rotunda at 5:30 and his talk will begin in the Malek Theater at 6:30. Copies of Beyond the Sea will be available for purchase and for Navy Bob’s signature.
There is no cost to attend, but reservations are highly encouraged.
