Preserving Food, Preserving Food Stories
About this Event
Food traditions are a part of our daily lives, and an important aspect of preserving cultural heritage.
Join Dr. Julia Skinner, a professional food writer and culinary educator, and former special collections librarian, to learn practical, simple ways to preserve the books and papers that hold your culinary memories and family and community traditions.
Then, we'll brainstorm about ways we can document and preserve the culinary traditions in our families and communities today, and make sure they're available for future generations.
Finally, we'll make a simple preserve recipe from my own trove of culinary traditions, and talk about how preserving food fits into our larger culinary landscape.
Each person will leave with their own jar of pickles, plus the knowledge to start preserving food and stories in their own community.
Please bring a notebook to take notes, if you wish. All other materials are provided!
