Set against the breathtaking landscape of Vermejo, a 558,000-acre reserve in northern New Mexico, PRESERVED tells the remarkable story of one of the largest restoration efforts in the American West.
Once heavily impacted by mining, overgrazing, and the loss of native species, Vermejo has become a living example of what is possible when people make the decision to restore landscapes.
Filmed over more than 130 days, PRESERVED follows the scientists, land managers, conservationists, and wildlife at the center of that transformation—from the return of native trout and restoration of streams to bison, beavers, bears, and mountain lions.
The result is something increasingly rare: a film about the environment that leaves you hopeful.

BEN CLARK Director of PRESERVED, Denver-based filmmaker and lifelong adventurer whose work explores wild places and the people fighting for them.
DENISE PETERSON Denise is a wildlife researcher and cinematographer whose work focuses on mountain lions and other wild cats. She has conducted field research in Utah and the Peruvian Amazon.
CAROLINE GLEICH Professional ski mountaineer, climate activist, and passionate advocate for protecting the landscapes and communities of the West.
Together, they’ll take the story beyond the screen for a conversation about what restoration can teach us—and what each of us can do to help create a more hopeful future.
