We'll be screening the 1987 film "Where is the friend's House?" directed by Abbas Kiarostami. A schoolboy tries to return his friend's notebook which he accidentally took home from school -- unfortunately, he doesn't know where his friend lives. This film swept awards at international film festivals and maintains a 100% critics rating on rotten tomatoes.
The first of a recurring film & discussion series screening classic and contemporary Iranian cinema — from the poetic New Wave of the 1960s-70s to the acclaimed dramas of the last two decades.
New to Iranian Cinema, wondering why you should give it a chance?

• For the artists: the way France sets the bar for pastries, Iran sets a bar for cinema. They're fantastically-composed films: clever, profound, perceptive, and break-your-heart gorgeous.
• For the thinkers: Iranian Cinema continues a centuries-long conversation in Persian poetry, literature, philosophy, and religious thought about what life is and how to face it.
• For the politically-minded: Iran is impossible to caricature but vital to understand. As a civilization, it is negotiating an old, rich intellectual and religious tradition against the pressures of modernity.
• For the lost and lonely: The director Abbas Kiarostami said he aspired to make films that restored people to their own lives, rather than draining and exhausting them -- we hope you'll feel that in this movie.
