Join us at Riverview Natural Area in Midland to manage invasive species to restore native habitat!
About this Event

The 419-acre Riverview Natural Area, located west of Midland on the Tittabawassee River, is protected by the Little Forks Conservancy to protect water quality and native wildlife habitat. Join us on March 10th, from 1-4pm, as we prepare a future native planting site by removing invasive plant species to restore this habitat.

What we’ll be doing: Volunteers will help restore the native habitat of Riverview Natural Area by manually cutting down invasive shrub species like autumn olive and barberry. Invasive species are those that are non-native to local ecosystems and can be harmful to the environment. Conservancy & partnering staff will also be applying herbicide to invasive cut stumps to prevent future growth. Those under 15 must have a parent present or a chaperone. This event is recommended for ages 10 and up.

What to bring: Gloves, water, safety glasses, and loppers and/or handsaws. We will be working outside in snow and colder temperatures, so please dress accordingly for the event and weather. Closed toed shoes are required. The Little Forks Conservancy will provide tools and safety glasses to those who need them.

Location, Directions, and Time: Riverview Natural Area is located on Wheeler Rd, west of Midland, Michigan 48640. Volunteers will park at the preserve parking lot, and then carpool to a second preserve access to hike to the restoration site. An LFC staff member will be waiting at the trailhead to direct and guide volunteers. For Google Maps directions, visit the link here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/fypZb2ZWw9suywsZA. To learn more about the natural area on our website, visit the link here: www.littleforks.org/riverview-natural-area.html.

This event will be held on Tuesday, March 10th from 1-4pm.

Please RSVP to receive updates. All events are subject to cancellation due to extreme cold. Please email any questions to Benjamin VanDyke at [email protected].

We appreciate your willingness to help us with our conservation and habitat efforts here in mid-Michigan!
