Join us for one of our Historic Detroit Cemetery tours scheduled for each weekend in October. Learn about the notable Detroiters who are buried in metro Detroit cemeteries. Hear the stories behind the famous (and infamous) buried within these cemeteries. Marvel at the historic art and architecture of the mausoleums and monuments.

Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield was established in 1928 and now is one of six Catholic cemeteries within the Archdiocese of Detroit. As such, it is the final resting place of Detroit’s Cardinals and Archbishops, Auxiliary Bishops, radio priest Father Charles Coughlin, and Focus: HOPE founder Father William Cunningham, as well as being home to memorials remembering clergy and religious orders that served our community.

Some of Detroit's notable citizens were laid to rest here: Detroit Tigers owners Mike Ilitch, Walter Briggs, and Frank Navin; the Fisher Brothers; civil rights activist Viola Liuzzo; businessmen Robert S. Brown and Joseph Vlasic; Detroit mayor Eugene Van Antwerp; Hall of Fame golfer Walter Hagen; Detroit Tigers great and Detroit City councilman Billy Rogell; building contractor William Lennane; Hall of Fame hockey player and Detroit Red Wings coach Jack Adams; among many others.

The cemetery is also home to the Polish “Blue Army” monument and the graves of nearly 60 Polish soldiers that fought in World War I, but had no home country to return to following the war.

This Sunday tour starts at 1:30pm. Meet at the office parking lot inside the front gates at the 10 Mile Rd. entrance. Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of the tour, which runs 2 to 2.5 hours. Parking is available inside the cemetery.

This is a walking tour, although driving is required to get to some sites in the cemetery. The terrain is sometimes uneven, so wear sensible shoes and dress for the weather. All tours take place rain or shine. No professional photography or tripods, please.

Walk-up tickets will NOT be available for these tours. You must purchase your tickets online…these tours WILL sell out! Advance ticket purchases are available until 6pm the Saturday before the tour. Tickets may be refunded up to 7 days prior to the date of a tour; after that, tickets are not refundable.
