ABOUT THE BOOK
Can we ever rediscover the lost pieces of ourselves that time and tragedy have stolen? Midcoast Maine, 1992. A fragile veil separates a seemingly idyllic small town from dark secrets lying just beneath. After his sister's untimely death, life holds little meaning for teenaged CJ Slater. Numb, withdrawn, and plagued with self-doubt, CJ finds himself drawn into a dangerous mystery when he meets the enigmatic Izzy. Izzy believes the birthmark over her heart is a scar from when she was killed in a previous life. After a cataclysmically traumatic childhood, she ran away from home and dedicated herself to finding the person she believes to have brutally murdered her previous incarnation. While CJ does not believe in reincarnation, he believes in Izzy. Convinced she has tracked the killer to CJ's town, the two slowly start to unravel the mystery and unwittingly unearth insidious and perilous secrets. At once a gripping mystery, a moving coming-of-age tale, and a philosophical examination of the human condition, Even After Always explores how we can recover what time takes away. It is an affirmation of the redemptive power of love and the belief in ourselves and each other.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Steven Ives was born in the Bronx. After spending his early childhood in New York City, his family moved to Fair Lawn, New Jersey, where he spent his early adolescence. After reading far too much beatnik literature in his teenage years, Steven took off at age twenty, armed with a mostly broken-down car, an already obsolete typewriter, and maybe the best cassette tape collection on earth, in the vague but idealistic hope of discovering the meaning of life and writing the Great American Novel. He spent the better part of the next decade driving around the continent, occasionally settling down in places as disparate as Colorado, Oregon, California, Iowa, Florida, and Montana. He got in a lot of trouble and somehow always managed to get out of it. He wrote tens of thousands of pages, which he hopes mattered at some point to someone. In his thirties, Steven returned to New York City. Years later, he's still there. Currently, he lives and bartends in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and still writes a ton. He's working on a new novel he'd love to talk your ear off about. Anyway, that's Steven's past and present. As for the future? Well, time is a curved line and, after all, anything can happen.
