Join Joel Robinson, Director and Senior Naturalist at Naturalist for You. He is working to change Orange Hills from a huge Irvine Company housing development into a park connecting Irvine Regional Park and Peters Canyon Regional Park. He has worked for the Nature Conservancy and other outdoor agencies. He enjoys hiking and camping with his family. He believes we can protect Orange Hills and leave a legacy of open space, wildlife and natural beauty for future generations. The key priorities for Orange Hills focus on connecting Irvine Regional Park and Peters Canyon Regional Park, ensuring that both wildlife and people can safely cross Santiago Canyon Road and Jamboree Road. This connection will help create a integrated park area totaling 1,245 acres.Within this expansive parkland, critical corridors will be protected for mountain lions and other mammals. The plan also includes the development of family-friendly trails, challenging hikes that lead to grand vistas, and the establishment of restoration and preservation areas. Notably, the project will help preserve a prehistoric Native American village site, honoring the region's cultural heritage.
