# PrepperNet Anderson – November Meeting
**Getting By the Old Ways: Are We Too Comfortable to Survive?**

**Could you live without electricity, running water, refrigeration, or the everyday conveniences we've come to take for granted?**
When Hurricane Helene came through in 2024, many of us in the Upstate found ourselves without electricity for ten days or more. It was an unexpected reminder of just how dependent we've become on modern conveniences.
But what about our ancestors? Just 200 years ago, families on the American frontier lived their entire lives without electricity, supermarkets, modern plumbing, or the countless conveniences we now consider necessities. They grew and preserved food, heated their homes, made repairs, and relied on practical skills and their communities to get by.
For our November PrepperNet Anderson meeting, we're taking a different look at preparedness with a presentation titled **"Getting By the Old Ways."**
We'll explore what our ancestors knew that we've forgotten, how modern comfort has shaped our expectations, and whether all the equipment and supplies we accumulate are really preparing us for hardship—or simply helping us avoid being uncomfortable.
We'll also look back at Hurricane Helene, share experiences, and challenge ourselves to think about what we truly need versus what we've simply grown accustomed to having.
And yes, we'll even ask the important question: **Do you really need that case of Ritz crackers to survive?**
Join us for an informative, thought-provoking, and hopefully entertaining evening of discussion about self-reliance, practical preparedness, and learning to get by with less.
