Prepare Breakfast for the 1460th Transportation Company

The Great Lakes Bay Veterans Coalition hosts a breakfast for each of the National Guard units in our region. We try and do this prior to their annual two-week training events. The event includes purchasing the food, bringing grills to the Armory, cooking and serving, and then cleaning up. On average, we cook for about 100 Service Members each time.
For this event, we will be cooking for the 1460th Transportation Unit in Midland. The primary role of the 1460th Transportation Company is to provide medium truck and logistical transport capabilities, specializing in hauling critical supplies like food, water, ammunition, and building equipment using heavy-duty systems like palletized loading vehicles.
The 1460th has had three major deployments in recent years.
First Iraq Tour (2003–2004): Deployed for 15 months driving supply convoys through Kuwait and Iraq. Tragically they lost Spc. Richard A. Goward in a vehicle accident on April 14, 2003.
Second Iraq Tour (2008–2009): Returned for a second tour of duty in Iraq, completing a nine-month mission before a welcome-home ceremony at the Midland County Fairgrounds.
Afghanistan Tour (2013–2014): Mobilized in November 2013 for an 11-month deployment supporting Operation Enduring Freedom, returning to a community welcome at H.H. Dow High School in September 2014 that the Great Lakes Bay Veterans Coalition hosted.
The event needs eight to ten cooks with Blackstone’s and about a dozen others for food preparation and serving. We try and be in the Armory by 7:00 AM and serving by 8:00 AM. We then try to finish, clean up, and leave the Armory by 9:30 AM.
The event also has an opportunity for groups to sponsor. The event costs about $500 to $600 to feed 100+ Soldiers. Your organization can be a food sponsor for $300.
