2026 Midland County Small Animal Costume Contest

Heart of the Country 4-H Club invites all Midland County 4-H members showing small animals at the Midland County Fair (Michigan) to participate in the small animal costume contest & parade.

📆 Parade is Saturday, 8/22/2026
⏰ Contest starts at 1:00pm, can start lining up and checking in at 15 minutes before the event
📍 Line up at the North end of the small animal Barn (side by the bathrooms)

ON-LINE REGISTRATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY 8/20/2026. After that date a paper registration must be completed.

Parade will line up on North side (side by the bathrooms) of the small animal barn and proceed through the barn. Judges will vote on categories. All registered small animal exhibitors may enter one small animal that is housed at the fairgrounds. This parade is for fun and is optional.

Costume Contest Rules:
✅Judges, and Judging Criteria: Each contest will have a minimum of three judges. Judges will choose winners based on showmanship, humor, originality, design & color, tasteful and creative presentation. Use your imagination! Homemade costumes are often the best. Even if you want to get a store-bought costume, doctor it up to make it your own and have fun!

✅ Contest Rules: Entrants must fill out a form with name, contact information and a description of your entry and the costume clearly written if you would like the MC to announce your entry and to be included in our winners' publicity. Be sure to sign the form.

✅ Animals must be under control of their handler at all times. Animals must be leashed or caged at all times.
.
✅Each entry may only have 1 person walking it.
.
✅Entrants must gather at the parade ring at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the parade.
.
✅The judges’ decisions are final.
.
✅No motorized vehicles are allowed, other than mobility assistance for the exhibitor.
.
✅No entrant is eligible for more than one award.
.
✅Entrant is responsible for their animal's health and safety. Judges have discretion to ask an unsafe entry to leave.
.
✅ Photographers will be set up at the event taking pictures of the winners and random photos of the animals and individuals attending the event. We will share the photoalbum with with small animals leaders to distribute after the event.
