In this 7 week class, students will develop both technical hand-quilting skills and creative design skills while working on a themed quilt of their choice. Hand Quilting Skills; Proper use of hand-quilting needles, thread, and thimbles. Hand-quilting stitch techniques for even, durable stitches. Thread control, knotting, and burying threads. Managing quilting lines around appliqué, lettering, and pieced blocks. Developing rhythm and consistency in hand quilting Piecing & Construction Skills; Cutting and assembling octagon blocks. Working with small fabric scraps and neutrals. Accurate piecing using a sewing machine. Joining blocks with filler blocks and borders. Preparing a quilt sandwich for hand quilting. Appliqué & Embellishment; Simple hand appliqué techniques. Attaching and stabilizing layered elements. Using embroidery and decorative stitches to enhance story blocks. Lettering & Story Elements; Planning and placing text within quilt blocks. Hand lettering using embroidery thread or appliqué. Creating symbolic drawings and visual storytelling elements. Translating memories, themes, or ideas into fabric form. Design & Composition: Developing a cohesive theme (memory, seasonal, event, or personal). Balancing story blocks with supporting blocks. Colour and fabric placement for visual flow, Allowing a design to evolve organically over time.
