In the practice of Kundalini Yoga achieving Shunya, a state of deep stillness, is often mentioned as important to find mental clarity and inner peace. In a state of stillness we are not disturbed by thoughts and sense impressions, and are merged into –synchronized with- the vibration of creation, of the universe.
The practice of Pratyahar, one of the Eight Limbs of Yoga as described by the ancient philosopher Patanjali, is a way to achieve Shunya. The practice is often described as ‘withdrawl from the senses’ and in old yogic scriptures likened to a turtle drawing its legs and tail into its shield. In meditation practice Pratyahar means we are no longer being disturbed by sensory impressions and by the discursions of the mind. We can experience and observe without grasping or following. We note, we are conscious of the experience but remain still, unperturbed.
But to become completely still is not a matter of stilling the senses and the mind alone. Also the physical and energetic body need to be at ease. An unobstructed flow of the lifeforce and an energetic inner and outer balance are needed to be able to achieve Shunya, deep stillness of the entire being.
In this workshop we will focus on the use of Prana, the energy that creates and sustains us, to achieve that stillness of body, mind and spirit.
