Editing with a purpose for newborn composites
Newborn portraits have been around for many generations. There is a fascination with capturing the very first few minutes and days of life and being a newborn portrait photographer
has quickly grown into one of the most popular types of photography in the market. In my class we talk about taking newborn portraiture into the fine art realm and creating masterpieces and one-of-a-kind images for parents that they can cherish for many generations. Your only limitation is your imagination and we will discuss how to find ideas, how to safely capture newborn images for the composite, how to capture the digital background, how to market these images to your clients, and how to sell them to your clients. A solid foundation in
photoshop helps as we discuss how to manipulate images in photoshop for a composited image. All of the basics of this workflow are covered, from capturing a newborn's portrait, to
capturing the digital background (or learning where to find the perfect digital background) and finishing with putting it all together in post-production. We will finish with learning about where to gather props, the best vendors out there that support this type of work, and even some conversation on competing with these images. I can't wait to share the fun and exciting world that I find myself in daily with you.
Tara is deeply embedded into military life, being a disabled veteran and a military spouse as well as a sincere love of working to support our US Military and the families nestled within. She has worked to pioneer her own personal style of motherhood and military photography that has earned awards from organizations such as the Wedding and Portrait Photographers
International (WPPI), the Professional Photographers of
America (PPA), The National Association of Professional Child
Photographers (NAPCP) as well as within the Army community. Among hundreds of international publications, her photography
has been shared on Facebook over 3.5 million times and featured in Vanity Fair, USA Today, Parents, SELF Magazine, The Huffington Post, Time Magazine and many more. Cosmopolitan magazine has called her work “stunning”, “powerful” and notes that her work caused “the internet to lose its collective mind” and the Gulf Coast Breastfeeding Center said, “Tara Ruby is to breastfeeding as Ansel Adams was to landscape”. She was also a finalist in Ron Howard’s Project Imaginat10n contest, has images in the full-feature documentary, Homecoming The Film and has her image displayed in the US Army Women’s museum in Fort Lee, VA. Tara is a graduate of the New York Institute of Photography, hold both her Master Photographer and her
Craftsman degree with PPA as well as holding an Associate's title with WPPI. When she is not behind the camera you will find her working at her small homestead, Ruby Roost & Ranch,
where she raises poultry, goats and pigs with her family or working out in the gym.
