About this Event
Did you know that you can use native plants and their flowers to dye fabric and paper ? Do you want to extend the summer with dreamy imprints of flowers and leaves ? Would you like to make a cute little cotton tote/string backpack to take home for all of your fall adventures? Then come to this equinox workshop at the Toronto Plant Market !
Graham Teeple will be teaching us how to identify the native flowers and plants that we can use for dyeing, and leading us through the process of transfering their colours to paper and fabrics . You will leave with your own little string tote to take home, and a new way of looking at the resilient plants around us :) We will provide a variety of leaves and flowers for each participant, gab about the flower market scene in toronto, talk about planting native plants in the fall (a great idea! ) and eat cake to celebrate the end of summer and beginning of autumn.
This workshop is $35 to cover the cost of all materials (totes !) and fancy snacks. If you do not want a tote (but why?!) you are welcome to come for $25 and learn and make paper cards. Please reach out about sliding scales to Katie Mathieu [email protected] Sometimes you need to do fancy things but can't do fancy prices, and we get it :)
Graham Teeple is a self-described gardener, designer, and plant communicator, and one of the best gardeners we know. Every time he talks we learn something new about plants and the world they live in.
He completed his Permaculture Design Certificate with Verge Permaculture in 2017, and an M.A. in Art History from York University in 2015.
His goal is to help everyone enjoy the benefits of beautiful, healthy plants in their lives and to encourage reintegration with the world around us.
The Toronto Plant Market is a native plant market that is focused on creating a stable supply of the native plants that we all need for climate work in our cities.
Katie Mathieu (your host and cake maker) is a private chef and Permaculture designer who always wants to talk about food and we can use it as an excuse to connect.
We look forward to hosting you and chatting about flowers ! See you at market.
