About this Event
In the Second session of Three, we explore the Ngā Pounamu Māori Collection with our attendees and continue to explore Tikanga and Mātauranga Māori.
The Ngā Pounamu Māori Collection is a specialised collection of content with a Te Ao Māori focus. We will introduce this collection with a guided exploration and research experience for our educators.
We hold these sessions like a wananga it’s an open conversation and is a safe space for all to learn.
Funded through the Canterbury Kāhui Ako Digital Project
The connection between this kaupapa and the Canterbury Kāhui Ako Digital Project comes with the collective desire to support kaiako to ensure that culturally responsive practice is always at the forefront. When we are working with our young people to empower them to tell their stories and become creators using digital technologies, we want to ensure that we as kaiako have a strong foundational knowledge of Mātauranga, and where to find resources to support this.

About Pou Kohikohinga Māori sessions
Our sessions are designed to be an all-day program from 9:30am – 3:30pm with a maximum of 12 people per session. Other session information
Session One: Cultural Narrative
In our First session of Three we introduce our attendees to the Cultural Narrative that has been gifted to Tūranga.
We aim to share the different ways in which Tikanga and Mātauranga Māori is displayed within libraries and how that is weaved into the way we the Pou Kohikohinga Māori work. Our focus is to provoke thought and generate conversation around these themes and to encourage our attendee’s growth and comfort with Tikanga and Mātauranga Māori.

Session Three: Aotearoa Histories Curriculum
In the final session of three we explore the new Aotearoa Histories Curriculum and how we have provided support as library staff to schools and educators across Canterbury.
With the introduction of the Aotearoa Histories Curriculum, we have had an increase in library engagement with this specific focus. Using elements from the previous sessions we will tie together the content that we have covered and how it can be used in the new Aotearoa Histories Curriculum. We will explore some Local History and different aspects of Te Ao Māori to encourage educators’ confidence and engagement with this kaupapa.
