About this Event
In this pottery workshop, you'll learn all of the beginner essentials for wheel throwing, like wedging, centering, opening, and pulling walls, in addition to meditative breathing and bodily control. You'll be guided through each step with demos, instructions, and personalized tips in an encouraging space! We will aim for a goblet-shaped piece, which means it can look more like a cup or bowl depending on the person throwing it.
The goals for the night are to explore a new art form, have fun, and make something with your hands! Ceramics is one of the most meditative mediums, connecting us with ourselves, the earth, and all elements. Go ahead and enjoy a night out full of good vibes, goofiness, and mud! :)
Your pieces will be ready for pick up approximately 3-weeks after the event (or can be shipped to you for an additional $10 fee). Pottery/ceramics needs to be fired in a kiln twice (once for bisque and the second for glaze) which takes multiple days. Once glaze fired the pieces will be non-toxic and safe to use for drinking, and eating; they can be put in the dishwasher and microwave but NOT in or on the stove. Both firings are included in the workshop fee and you get to pick how you want your piece to be glazed (colored) in the end!
All classes and workshops are open to anyone over the age of 10 years old, any person under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. We are offering a 4-week YOUTH POTTERY CLASS for ages 8-15!
Note: Shahane will be the instructor! She has taught pottery since 2016, got her BFA in ceramic arts in 2015 with a double minor in art history and psychology, and owns Pudgy's Place with her husband Phillip :)
