This ongoing monthly portrait class is designed for artists who want a clear, sequential approach to portrait drawing and painting, with extended working time and thoughtful instruction.
Each month consists of a four-session series, allowing students to build skills progressively while also accommodating new participants. The class focuses on the core foundations of strong portraiture—structure, value, and color—while gradually guiding students toward expressive and personal interpretation. Emphasis is placed on how to see and make decisions, rather than copying features or rushing to finish.
What We’ll Cover:
- Constructing the head as a three-dimensional form
- Organizing light and shadow for strong value structure
- Introducing color without losing form or clarity
- Integrating facial features naturally into the head
- Using edges, emphasis, and restraint to create expression
This class is suitable for beginner through experienced artists. Instruction is structured but flexible, and all mediums are welcome. Artists enrolled in Creative Mastery are welcome to take this class as a complementary study, though it is not required.
