Portrait Session with artist Kip Fulbeck
Fulbeck developed the Alaska chapter of The Hapa Project during a residency at the Anchorage Museum in summer 2025, photographing 89 Alaskans. Their portraits and handwritten responses consider how people describe themselves, their families, their experiences and their sense of belonging.
The project began in 2001 and has grown to include more than 1,200 portraits and personal statements. This participatory session continues that work in Alaska: new portraits and handwritten statements will be added to the community display wall on a rotating basis throughout the exhibition.
