About this Event
Tony will use a mix of theory, demonstrations and guided portrait drawing exercises to teach students the core principles of portraiture. The course focuses on producing portraits with a solid and realistic feel using a mix of observation and logic, with emphasis placed on tonal relationships.
The course runs over four Saturdays:
Saturday 9th May
Saturday 16th May
Saturday 23rd May
Saturday 30th May
We will explore direct and indirect drawing methods, using angles, alignments and comparative measuring to develop accuracy and correct proportions.
Working from quality reference images, students will produce several portrait sketches in the first two sessions, and one or two longer, more finished pieces in the final two sessions. We will also take time to study the eyes, nose and mouth in isolation.
The class size is limited to five students to enable sufficient individual guidance.
Suitable for beginners and intermediate levels.
On Saturday 6th June, attendees may wish to join the monthly, untutored open portraiture session at Westgate Studios to further practice and develop their skills.
Westgate Studios is opposite HSBC and next door to PopWorld on Westgate (short walk from Wakefield Westgate train station).
