Porter McClister’s Box & Bucket is a brand new band from Portland, Oregon area by way of Nashville and L.A. The band features well-known 30-year Nashville guitar legend, Porter McClister (Box) and the impeccably talented Barbara LePine on the washtub bass. (Bucket) Together they perform a truly one-of-a-kind improvisational show featuring an array of country and Americana songs that turns into one of the very best Nashville-style musical experiences you’ll ever had the pleasure to witness!
A graduate of the prestigious Berklee School of Music, Porter was the lead guitarist for over a decade with Country Music Hall of Famer, Tanya Tucker. He has appeared with Willie Nelson, Dicky Betts, George Jones, Charlie Daniel’s, Crystal Gale, Bill Anderson, Holly Dunn, Jim Lauderdale, and Gretchen Wilson on stages all over the World including the Ryman Auditorium, Hollywood Bowl, Farm Aid, Merriweather Post Pavilion, The Tonight Show, Today Show, ACM’s and CMA’s. If that isn’t enough to sway you, Porter provided backing vocals on the ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?’ soundtrack including a notable contribution to the haunting track, ‘Down to the River,’ where he harmonizes with the incomparable Alison Krauss.
While in Nashville, Porter could be found at the home of traditional country music, Robert's Western World, where he was part of the legendary Don Kelley band, a band that served as a ‘proving ground’ for a list of some of the country’s most formidable guitarists. One of whom is a Crazy Horse alum; Daniel Donato. When you witness Porter’s complex fingerpicking, it will be very evident why he belongs in company such as this.
Barbara Le Pine, on the electric washtub bass, is a professional drummer out of L.A. who was a member of international touring act, The California Girls, an all-female opening act for The Beach Boys, as well as Steppenwolf, Al Jardine and the Beach Party Band, to name a few. She also served as a vibraphonist with the Lincoln Pops Big Band and percussionist in pit orchestras for Broadway style musical stage shows.
Bucket is amplified just like a regular bass guitar, however, the tone is much lower than a typical bass. A stand-up bass is a "double bass," however, Barbara's one string washtub bass is considered a "triple-bass" in tone, with a unique sound all its own. By attending this show, you are signing up to see something unlike anything you’ve seen before.
