News Flash: BBD will be sticking with the earlier start time of 9pm until football season starts back up in September. Keep in mind that we need people to be there in order to make the early start time work.
If the Grateful Dead is your religion, then the Crazy Horse is your church when Third Thursday rolls around. However, this one is happening on the FOURTH THURSDAY due to scheduling necessities. Every month Jonny Mojo (Achilles Wheel), Gary Campus (Deadbeats) and Tim High (Tim High & the Mighty) host a cast of the finest musicians from around the region to conjure lightning in a bottle. BBD is a gathering point for everyone who wants to plug into the feeling of what it was like soaking in the otherworldly sounds at a Dead show while sharing the dance muse with the tribe. The music that bubbles forth from these nights captures the spontaneous, primal, orgasmic spirit that so many of us crave.
Jonny is a proverbial pied piper who guides the flock to the promised land with his incredibly versatile guitar playing and passion for the music coursing through his veins. He is one of the brightest lights among Nor Cal GD guitar specialists. He lives and breathes this music like a fish swimming in the sea. Gary emanates bliss in every beat and gracefully molds his style to elevate the strengths of his collaborators. He’s been a rhythmic instigator in the region for 45 years now and is more fired up than ever. Nothing makes Tim happier than singing Grateful Dead songs as is evident by his assertive and heartfelt renditions of the classics as well as obscurities. Akin to Mickey Mantle switch-hitting, he transmits the fire and brimstone of Bob and the raw emotion of Jerry.
It’s always extra fun when we bring a saxophone into the equation for BBD. Especially so when the man blowing that horn is Eric Weber (LAZWELL, Swamp Zen). The dude plays his heart out every time and is a master improviser who is so good at lighting a fire under everyone else sharing the stage. Playing both tenor and alto sax, he brings out an extra funk factor and also voyages into the deep jazz space the Dead relished. The setlist will be specially geared towards bringing out the most in Eric’s unique bag of tricks.
Eric may emanate copious volumes of joy, but no one can surpass Jen Rund (Jenerator) in that department. Her smile is infectious as her bouncy bass elevates the entire mix to newfound heights. You can’t take your eyes off of her while she makes your limbs move in ways beyond any expectation. Rounding out the lineup is a major veteran of the game, Jim Wendt (Saints of Circumstance) on keys. Jim is a jack of all trades when it comes to knowing just what any given moment needs. He laces melodic torrents through the morphing matrix of sound; moving effortlessly from watery cascades to celestial sparkling.
