Pondside miniature model-making: Patio furniture with Amelia Fagence

As part of Objectspace’s pondside event programme, join artist, designer, and maker Amelia Fagence for a hands-on workshop exploring the art of miniature wooden model making.

In this session, you’ll be guided through the process of turning your dream outdoor furniture design into a small-scale model using balsa wood.

Together, we’ll:

• Learn the fundamentals of model making
• Explore how to bring ideas from 2D sketches to 3D forms
• Craft a miniature version of your ideal piece of patio furniture
• Experience what it’s like to step into the shoes of a model maker for the evening

Please bring along a sketch or photo of a piece you’d like to bring to life.

All materials are provided, but feel free to bring any favourite tools or supplies you'd like to work with.

Amelia Fagence is an Ōtautahi based contemporary artist and maker, who crafts art, objects and sculptural furniture from wood. She has exhibited at The Aotearoa Art Fair, The Arts House Trust, McLeavey Gallery, and Public Record. Prior to discovering her love of working with wood, Amelia trained and worked in architecture and as a professional architectural model maker.

She continues to utilise her model making skills in her design studio by creating scaled models to refine her object and furniture designs.
