About this Event

The Anderson County Extension Office and the Anderson County Soil & Water Conservation District will host a free pond management workshop on September 18th from 9 A.M. to 12 P.M. at the JC Ball Park Pond in Belton, SC. Topics to be discussed include water quality, nuisance algae and aquatic plants, and fisheries.


Water Quality Management

Participants will learn about pond liming and the importance of dissolved oxygen, pH, alkalinity, hardness, and turbidity. Participants will measure dissolved oxygen and pH in the field and learn how to submit a water sample and pond bottom soil sample to Clemson’s Agricultural Service Laboratory.


Nuisance Algae and Aquatic Plant Management

Participants will learn how to submit algae and plant samples to Clemson’s Plant & Pest Diagnostic Center for identification and management recommendations. Participants will learn about manual removal, biological control, chemical control, and nutrient management options.


Fisheries Management

Participants will learn about stocking and harvesting fish for recreational purposes and aquatic W**d control.
