The Pokémon TCG Standard format is the primary competitive, rotating format for tournaments, focusing on the most recent card sets to maintain a healthy meta. As of April 2026, the format generally includes cards with "G", "H", and subsequent regulation marks. Cards must be from Scarlet & Violet series sets or later to ensure legality.
Key Aspects of Standard Format
Rotation: Occurs annually, typically around April, to remove older cards and introduce new strategies.
Regulation Marks: Cards are marked with a letter in the bottom-left corner (e.g., F, G, H). Only specific, current letters are allowed.
Reprint Rule: Older versions of cards that have been reprinted with a legal regulation mark (e.g., G or H) can be used, even if the older card doesn't have the mark.
Legal Sets: Generally includes the last two to three years of releases, heavily focusing on the current Scarlet & Violet series.
Current and Upcoming Rotations:
Through April 9, 2026: Cards with "F" regulation marks and later are generally legal.
Effective April 10, 2026: Rotation removes "F" block cards, allowing only "G", "H", and later marks.
For the latest information and to check which cards are legal, you can use the official Pokémon card database.
Tips for Standard Play:
Tournament Legal: New sets generally become legal for tournament play two weeks after their release.
Digital Play: Pokémon TCG Live updates its digital format to match the physical Standard rotation.
Deck Building: Focus on acquiring cards from the Scarlet & Violet expansions to ensure longevity in the format.
