Pokemon Gym Leader Challenge Store Championship
Any fifth Thursday in a month triggers a special "Store Championship" for the shop. Ours will be a Gym Leader Chaos draft Challenge.
Participation points and placement points granted for league play.
Players will bring a pre-con Gym Leader deck (as described below), and purchase one pack (this can include 2-3 shop 10ct, repacks as a substitute) to modify their deck. But the "singleton" rules still apply. They will do a chaos draft amongst their pod to modify the pre-con.
Gym Leader Challenge (GLC) is a high-skill "singleton" format for the Pokémon TCG that mimics the monotype teams of video game Gym Leaders. It has become a popular alternative to formats like Standard and Expanded.
Core Rules:
To build a legal GLC deck, you must follow these specific restrictions:
Singleton Construction:
Your 60-card deck can only contain one copy of each card by name (excluding Basic Energy).
Monotype Pokémon: All Pokémon in your deck must share the same type (e.g., only Fire-types or only Grass-types).
No "Rule Box" Pokémon: Cards with a "Rule Box" description—such as Pokémon ex, V, GX, EX, Prism Star, and Radiant Pokémon—are strictly banned.
No ACE SPEC Cards: These powerful one-per-deck items are also prohibited.
Expanded Card Pool: The format uses cards from the Black & White Series onward.
Gameplay Experience
Unlike Standard, which is often fast-paced and dominated by high-HP, multi-prize "Rule Box" cards, GLC focuses on single-prize attackers and traditional evolution lines. This creates slower, more strategic games where "filler" cards from past sets can finally shine.
Dedicated Ban List
To keep the single-type environment balanced, certain cards are banned in addition to standard Expanded bans:
Supporters: Hiker and Lysandre's Trump Card.
Items: Chip-Chip Ice Axe.
Stadiums: Forest of Giant Plants and Pokémon Research Lab.
Energy: Double Colorless Energy and Twin Energy.
