About this Event
This event is all-ages!
Timetable
6:45pm - Doors open, sign up to read (or just listen), chat with other poetz
7:10pm - First round of poetry readings.
8pm (ish) - Break, second round sign-ups.
8:15pm - Second round of poetry readings.
8:45pm - If there's extra time left at the end, we do a "Burning Poems" round which is a rapid-fire session for anyone with a poem left they didn't get a chance to read that they're dying to share.
9:00pm - Depart
Rules for the poetz
-No time limit, but usually 1-4 poems read by each poet.
-Doesn't have to be your own original work necessarily, if you'd like to share work from someone else you can.
-Virtually all topics are welcome*. This means that sometimes content material can be heavy or unexpectedly challenging. We want to hold a space for all range of experiences, language and attitudes in this poetry circle, you've been warned!
*zero tolerance for hate speech. This is an inclusive space for 2SLGBTQIA+ community members and diverse identities of all kinds. As long as you're not a hater you're welcome here.
Rules for the audience
-Make some noise when someone's words resonate with you! This gives a poet fuel to keep sharing.
-Hype up a poet during the break if you really dug what they shared.
-Be mindful that if something shared was deeply personal, be delicate in how you approach the subject.
Comfort & Accessibility
We want to accommodate folks as best as we can. Please speak with the organizer at [email protected] if you need any assistance accessing the venue or arranging accommodations.
Physical accessibility - there is one step to get into the building and another step to get on the stage. The bathroom is single-stall and gender-neutral but is too narrow for wheelchair accessibility.
Privacy - we will ask if it is okay to take your photo at the event if you're going on stage. This is so we can post to our instagram account and promote the event further.
Any other questions? Please ask.
