MARY RICKETSON FEATURED POET AT JUNE 9 POETRY HICKORY
Hickory's 19-year-old monthly poetry reading series will welcome Murphy, NC, poet, Mary Ricketson to the stage as the featured reader on June 9, starting at 6:15. The reading will be held at Taste Full Beans Coffeehouse in downtown Hickory.
Mary Ricketson’s poems reflect the healing power of nature, a path she follows rooted in Appalachian tradition, with the surrounding mountains serving as the midwife for her words. Her newest book, "Tall Flowers and Living Long" is a collection of poems written day by day, capturing her life closely intertwined with the natural world.
Author of 9 collections of poetry, Ricketson is a mental health therapist in private practice and enjoys writing, hiking mountain trails, and tending to her garden of vegetables, flowers, and blueberries.
Her previous published poetry books are "I Hear the River Call My Name," "Hanging Dog Creek," "Shade and Shelter," "Mississippi: The Story of Luke and Marian," "Keeping in Place," "Lira - Poems of a Woodland Woman," "Precious the Mule", and "Stutters: A Book of Hope." She won first place in the 2011 Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest 75th Anniversary National Poetry Contest.
Ricketson's reading will be followed by an Open Mic.
