The Writers Guild at Bloomington and the Runcible Spoon Restaurant & Cafe present a dual poetry book launch reading for Light at the End of COVID, by Darcy Fisher, and Learning How to Drown, by Joseph Kerschbaum (host: Hiromi Yoshida).
Open mic to follow.

DARCY FISHER is a poet from Bloomington, Indiana, whose creative journey has taken her across continents — China being the major destination to which she had been lured. There, she led and organized poetry workshops, readings, and art events. Her poems, published in both China and the United States, bridges cultures and languages, while exploring the connections between place, memory, and identity. They also reflect her global perspective and her deep commitment to our shared language of art. Darcy Fisher writes like we breathe air to live.

Praise for LIGHT AT THE END OF COVID (Alien Buddha Press, 2025):
"These poems record Darcy Fisher's mind states during the COVID-19 pandemic when she lived in lockdown in Shenzhen, China. The poems also reflect how her transpacific journey away from the parochiality of smalltown, Indiana, has ultimately enabled her to see the world as a kaleidoscopic panorama--a flawed, yet lovely, paradise, an oyster yawning for the perfect pearl."
- Hiromi Yoshida, Poetry Editor, Flying Island Journal

Author of 10 books of poetry and two spoken word albums, JOSEPH KERSCHBAUM was a finalist for the Ruth Lilly Endowment from the Poetry Foundation, and was awarded an Individual Artistic Grant from the Indiana Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts. He has performed at numerous venues around the country, and taught poetry workshops at the John Waldron Arts Center and Ivy Tech College. He lives in Bloomington, Indiana with his family, where he continues to write, perform, and support the literary arts.

Praise for LEARNING HOW TO DROWN (Finishing Line Press, 2026):
"Joseph Kerschbaum writes these dark little epics of small-town, blue-collar, midwestern life. His chapbook, Learning How to Drown, rings with authenticity; this is a sensitive, mature poet attuned to people and places, and the terrors and frustrations brewing beneath the surface. Kerschbaum captures broken lives and dead ends both honestly and compassionately, and his poems stayed with me long after I had finished reading."
- Justin Lacour, Editor-in-Chief, Trampoline: A Journal of Poetry

Signed book copies will be available for purchase at the reading venue.
