Lara Payne will celebrate the launch of her new poetry collection, the waiting season. Moving through four interconnected sections, Payne’s poems explore motherhood, loss, longing, memory, and the changing natural world. Starkly intimate and carefully crafted, the collection considers what we are promised, how we search for truth, and how we carry what we are bound to lose.

Anne Becker will share the reading with selections from The Crack in the Earth. Becker is a former Poet Laureate of Takoma Park and the author of Human Animal, The Good Body, and The Transmutation Notebooks: Poems in the Voices of Charles and Emma Darwin. A longtime presence in the Washington, DC, literary community, she has taught at The Writer’s Center and served as Poet-in-Residence at Pyramid Atlantic Arts Center. Her poetry reaches beneath ordinary language to explore the physical, emotional, and elemental experience of living in the world.
